Stopping Labour's Hypocrisy on the Environment...
Whatever your opinions on whether global-warming is man-made or not, I hope you will sign this petition for the sheer reason of stopping the government's hypocrisy:
http://petitions.pm.gov.uk/governmentcars/
The petition reads:
"We the undersigned urge the Prime Minister to scrap wasteful ministerial vehicles in favour of vehicles that have a much smaller impact on the environment.
The government have recently commissioned adverts which encourage all Britons to reduce their ‘Carbon Footprint’ (and thus that of the UK), yet government ministers seem quite content to cruise around in wasteful high-powered cars which are polluting and damaging our environment, and also compounding the global warming problem. A typical government high-powered car has a higher carbon emission than a typical 4x4 vehicle. I think this demonstrates the case perfectly.
4x4 drivers are often criticised because of their vehicle’s impact on the environment.
It is right therefore, that if the government expect the public to minimise their carbon footprints, that the government surrender these wasteful vehicles in favour of something more modest and environmentally friendly."
Something I also sent to my MP:
"Dear Mr. Taylor,
I am writing to you regarding Labour’s hypocrisy regarding ‘green issues’ and the environment. I find it laughable at best, that while the government has seen fit to spend thousands (if not more) of taxpayer’s money on adverts enlightening everyone as to their duty to reduce their own (and thus the UK’s) carbon ‘footprint’, they seem quite content to cruise around in publicly-funded Jaguars, which are highly wasteful and emit more Carbon emissions than a BMW X5 4x4 (The Jaguar’s 254.0 g/km vs. the BMW X5’s 178.0 g/km)*
Not to mention the poor fuel consumption government Jaguars have – which, given current fuel prices is without doubt a substantial drain on the public purse.
I don’t mind doing my bit for the environment, but I object when the government see fit to start preaching about the public reducing their carbon footprints, when government ministers are quite content to waste public money and compound the ‘global warming’ problem by driving around in wasteful Jaguars. Perhaps something more modest like a hybrid/dual-fuel car is in order.
Whilst not as luxurious, at least then it won’t smack of communist-style elitism and champagne socialism.
Yours Sincerely,
