At a Young Independence fringe meeting following Saturday’s Spring Conference in Scarborough, the brand new YI council was announced to both a raft of UKIP activists and members of the party leadership.
Of the seven positions on the council, one was not up for election and five were won by unopposed candidates. In the council’s only competitive election, the position of Membership Officer was awarded to Sean Howlett after a victory over incumbent Danielle Brannon.
After two terms as Young Independence chairman, Michael Heaver opted not to stand for re-election, allowing Harry Aldridge to inherit the position unopposed.
After the results were announced and the new council confirmed, a number of the new council members had the opportunity to speak and put forth their commitment to their roles and in increasing UKIP’s progress as a party to be reckoned with amongst the country’s youth.
