A Dispatches investigation broadcast last night illustrated once again why the public are right to be deeply sceptical and angry at their politicians, after politicians from both of the old parties were apparently shown to be behaving improperly.

These included former Cabinet Minister Stephen Byers who described himself as a "cab for hire" at a rate of up to £5,000 a day as a lobbyist inside Westminster.

"Those MPs caught up in the lobbying scandal should resign from their seats out of respect for their constituents", Harry Aldridge the Secretary of Young Independence, said.

"It is outrageous that MPs think it is acceptable to auction our democracy to the highest bidder.

"Now more than ever voters require a right of recall, as advocated by UKIP, so MPs hold their seats by the continual consent of their constituents who can remove them from office for such behaviour".

Michael Heaver, Chairman of YI added: "The fact that Mr. Byers' only defence since the program was broadcast was that he was lying about the influence he has had in the past for private groups is sad and depressing".

"Though Labour have suspended those MPs exposed on the program, these were only the ones who were caught and would still be fully-fledged "honourable members" of the Parliamentary Labour Party had Channel 4 not busted them".
