The economists are clear: Conservative school plans won't help the poor.
The Institute for Fiscal Studies(IFS) has concluded that Tory plans for education will not end the terrible segregation between the good schools in well-off areas of the country and the poor ones in deprived areas.
Well, most people could have told you that. But the report goes further, insisting that the Conservatives' "pupil premium" which encourages schools to take on kids from poorer areas will fail. And more alarmingly, the IFS have concluded that the Tories plans will lead to budget cuts in one of five secondary schools and one in eight primary schools.
It is growing increasingly clear in my eyes that David Cameron's plans to tinker with Britain's current education system are doomed to fail. Not only are they not radical enough, they are not nearly aggressive enough in their desire for children from deprived neighbourhoods to get a good grounded education.
At the end of the day, it is working class communities that tend to take the brunt of Britain's failing educational system. It is kids from these areas that are unfulfilled, lack any real discipline in their lives and have little ambition. Many children from these types of poorer areas are not going to get the drive and encouragement they need from home.
That is why we urgently need to radically change the education system in our country. That is why the restoration of the grammar school system in Britain is so vitally important.
